Abstract

|
|
Renal blood flow was measured by single injection technique of Hippuran 131I in 11 cases of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, 20 cases of rheumatic valvular heart disease and 11 control subjects. There was a significant decrease in renal blood flow in both groups compared to that in the normal subjects, and the decrease was more marked in those with severe congestive heart failure. In hypertensive cardiovascular disease no correlation was noted between mean blood pressure and renal blood flow but the latter was markedly decreased in those with grade III?IV. hypertensive retinopathy compared to those with grade I ?II retinopathy and the normal subjects. In rheumatic valvular heart disease there was no correlation between venous pressure and renal blood flow, whereas a close correlation was noted between creatinine clearance and the latter.
